A personal project as my first try at some proper vector illustration to commemorate Halloween 2020! This was inspired by illustrations I often see on the internet, Instagram and Pinterest.
This was a fun challenge and I really enjoyed trying to envision how certain things fall, such as the creases in the fabric around a pumpkin and its shadows. Then to translate this using the pen tool into vector shapes was also very interesting (especially without the use of any pixel based tools).
I usually first hand draw illustrations and use a scan as a basis for tracing, but I tried doing this straight onto programme. It took a few tries to get certain things quite right and I found that there is always extra detail to add, but this really made me appreciate how ‘basic’ looking illustrations such as this and is often seen online require attention and often are more complex than they seem.
Illustration is something I am a novice at, but I am looking forward to trying more vector art and trying to work out a good workflow to keep the vector work neat and concise.
